Concert: Arcade Fire at Sportpaleis
Tuesday, 10 June, 20h00 Antwerp
Yes, yes, we also don’t like the big commercial venues, but Arcade Fire is worth an exception. For all those who weren’t able to get one of the few, much fought-over tickets to their intimate, exclusive gig at Halles de Schaerbeek last November, there’s now the opportunity to see the grandiose bunch in a bit of a different setting at Antwerp’s Sportpaleis.
Opening: Sarah Crowner at Galerie Catherine Bastide
Wednesday, 11 June, 18h00-21h00 Brussels
With the exhibition “Motifs” Galerie Catherine Bastide kicks off a new chapter: it’s the first show in the gallery’s brand new space after its move from Antwerp to Brussels. On the menue is a site-specific solo expo by American artist Sarah Crowner, who skillfully combines ceramics, textiles, and principles of interior design. She “wants to turn tasteful design elements into unpredictable actors”, wrote The New York Times praisingly about her work.
Opening: Aaron Bobrow at Office Baroque Gallery
Thursday, 12 June, 18h00 Brussels
“Ventilator Blues”, a solo exhibition of American artist Aaron Bobrow, opens this Thursday at Office Baroque Gallery, another one who recently made the move from Antwerp to the capital. Since November 2013 it’s located in 1909 cast iron building by Art Nouveau architect Paul Hamesse. New York-based Bobrow, whose creations blur the boundaries between sculpture, painting and recycling, was listed in Complex’ round-up of artists to watch in in 2013. The upcoming twenty-something, a Parsons graduate, is best known for his large-scaled tarps.
Opening: Vaast Colson at Island
Thursday, 12 June, 18h00 Brussels
Island presents a selection of brand new works by Belgian artist Vaast Colson, a painting graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy. Over the years the Antwerp-based artist has mainly made a name for himself with his both engaging and surprising performances, often accompanied by related installations. In the past Colson’s work has been shown at renowned places as SMAK or Wiels.

With Rectangle artists Cédric Alby, Jeremie Boyard, Pierre-Pol Lecouturier and Xavier Pauwels are aiming at showing art in an alternative way. A bit about a year ago they attached an 11-square-metre billboard high above their studio in St. Gilles, which now serves as a unique and original exhibition space. Every two months passers-by can discover a new image on the rooftop, and this Saturday it’s the turn of French-born and Brussels-based artist Vincent Olinet.
Night out: Open The Box & Shubaka Records at Byrrh
Saturday, 14 June, 23h00 Brussels
This Saturday Brussels collective Open The Box and Belgian vinyl-only label Shubaka Records team up to throw one massive night at Byrrh on the occasion of Shubaka Records’ first release.
