Things to do in Belgium in September: exhibitions, film festivals, art nights, and more. See you there!
Exhibition: Secret Garden at Ping Pong Gallery
Runs until 29 September Antwerp
“Secret Garden” is a solo exhibition presenting works by American-born, Paris-based artist Eloise van der Heyden. Her fascinating work often revolves around human relationships and behaviors. Here, she explores the habit of covering ourselves with clothes, be it for survival, to seduce or to give ourselves an identity, while using an engraving technique incorporating fibers from cloths and plants.
Cinema: Korean Film Festival
Until 25 September Brussels
This week the third edition of the Korean film festival comes to a close, a great and rather rare opportunity to discover the country’s highly interesting cinema culture. The festival’s programme, an initiative by Brussels’ Korean Cultural Center, mixes big productions with small independent films, which are shown in different locations from Galeries Cinema to Bozar. View the full programme here.
Art night: Borger #7
Friday, 25 September Antwerp
Several times a year the many galleries in Antwerp’s Borgerhout, Berchem and Zurenborg district team up for a special gallery night with long opening hours. It’s time again for another Borger this Friday, with Ibasho gallery’s pop-up expo and Farah Atassi’s solo show at Extra City being on top of our list.
Exhibition: Structures Fossiles at Chabah Yelmani Gallery
Until 10 October Brussels
Chabah Yelmani Gallery (read our interview with its founder here) currently presents an exhibition featuring the works of French artist Emilie Benoist. Her installations examine the relations between the body, architecture and nature, while, as always, drawing heavily on the natural sciences. Integrating ancient fossils into her creations, Emilie marries the past with the future, exploring subjects such as wars caused by the fight for natural resources.
Night out: Catclub Birthday
Saturday, 26 September Brussels
Brussels’ most infamous and beloved club night celebrates its 13th birthday this weekend with one huge anniversary bash. All details about the special birthday party are kept secret, but rest assured, you definitely won’t be disappointed. The organisers have revealed one hint though: dress warm but sexy!
