Exhibition: Claudia Comte at Gladstone Gallery

“The Cavern of Lost Dreams (nine characters)” is an immersive, site-specific installation extending throughout the whole gallery space. Swiss artist Claudia Comte‘s sculptures and wall paintings build a captivating ensemble of imaginative forms and landscapes exploring questions such as high vs. low culture, fact vs. fiction, and the impact that mass production has had on our planet.

New kid: Niko-Niko

Niko-Niko, opening this Friday, is a new Japanese deli-counter whose concept revolves around bento, the famed Japanese lunch box traditionally consisting of rice, vegetables, and fish. Every day, three different bento versions are on the menu, freshly made with locally-sourced, organic products. Itadakimasu!

Exhibition: Nadia Naveau at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens

Born in Bruges and living in Antwerp, Belgian artist Nadia Naveau has made a name for herself with her figurative sculptures combining classical iconography with pop culture. “It is important to me that an image creates a sense of estrangement. I like images that pull me in and make me feel unsure about what I should do with them, what their intentions are. You can taste a good image, it has something appetising, …” the artist says. Now on view at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens.

Installing the show

For the exhibition series “De keuze van” (The choice of), a renowned Antwerp artist invites promising talents who in his or her view is deserving of (inter)national recognition. Next up is an exhibition curated by Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven who selected Gerard Herman and Sine Van Menxel. “What Sine and Gerard have in common is their flexible approach to the intimate, the hidden, the small. And the fact that their modus operandi is to search for approaches that force one to experience things physically and in very close proximity”, says Van Kerckhoven. Don’t miss Herman’s performance at 21h00 on the opening night.
