This group exhibition at Antwerp’s TICK TACK features 13 emerging artists from Klasse Reyle, Anselm Reyle’s renowned class at HFBK Hamburg. Duo show: Veil of Time at Rufus gallery
Runs until 4 May Ghent
At Ghent’s Rufus Gallery, ‘Veil of Time’ brings together the work of Belgian artist Bloeme van Bon and Swedish, Brussels-based artist Sofia Pashaei in a quiet yet charged dialogue on identity, memory and temporality. Bloeme van Bon’s paintings explore complex human nature through a subtle, almost meditative lens, while Pashaei, who is also an independent animation director for The New York Times, Google and MTV, is inspired by Mehmooni, a typical Iranian social gathering with food, hospitality and memory at its center.
Cinema: Irish Film Festival
From 7 to 13 April All over Belgium
The selection of this year’s Irish Film Festival in Belgium reflects the ongoing dialogue about Ireland’s identity in an AI-shaped world. The featured films invite viewers to think about what can be learned from the country’s medieval and modern histories and how its tradition of storytelling might offer guidance in an increasingly complex world. One highlight is Birdsong, screening at Brussels’ Cinema Aventure on Saturday: Kathleen Harris’s documentary about ornithologist Seán Ronayne is a quietly powerful exploration of his mission to record every bird species in Ireland. The underground Secret Cinema night on Thursday in Ghent focuses on Irish shorts, with the location revealed only an hour before the event.
Night out: Bodies in Space invites Catclub
Saturday, 12 April, 20-6h00 Brussels
Tucked away in a repurposed office tower on the fringes of Brussels, Bodies in Space has been quietly transforming into one of the city’s most intriguing experimental hubs. For two years, this temporary cultural playground – home to residencies, studios and event spaces – offers dancers, performers and artists a much-needed answer to the city’s space crisis. A building in movement, both by day and by night. This Saturday, the night belongs to Catclub. Hosted by the ever-glamorous Miss Ines, the evening kicks off with a clawed-up cabaret: think high-energy drag, purring glamour and just enough mischief to keep you on your toes. When the last act leaves the stage, don’t head home just yet – the dance floor takes over, and things are about to get feral.
Group show: Once The Block Is Carved, There Will Be Names at Greta Meert
Runs until 3 May Brussels
Every day, we are bombarded with stories, interpretations, opinions. This exhibition takes a step back and offers a moment of pause, showcasing works that resist illustrative meaning and explore the freedoms of non-representational production. Curated by California-based art critic Jonathan Griffin and artist Liam Everett, the show at Greta Meert follows the legacy of West Coast abstraction, influenced by artists like Larry Bell, Ken Price, and Lee Mullican. Besides painting, clay and Eastern philosophy play a central role. By the way, if you want to dive further into the Los Angeles art scene, we recommend the documentary ‘The Cool School’.
