Art routes in Liège and Forest, the intersection of photography and AI in Brussels, a ceramics studio turns 4 and more art in Ghent: Here’s what’s happening across Belgium this week, from 9 to 15 June. See you there!
Last days: AImagine at Hangar
Until Sunday, 15 June Brussels
AI is on everyone’s lips these days, and does not stop at the gates of the art world. While some artists vehemently reject it, others choose to embrace it. This thought-provoking exhibition at Brussels’ Hangar presents eighteen projects that interrogate the timely subject, intriguingly dancing the tightrope between reality and fiction. With Bruce Eesly, Isidore Hibou, Delphine Diallo, and many others.
Art day: Volxem 2025
Saturday, 14 June, 11-18h00 Brussels
When Wiels opened its doors in Brussels’ Forest neighbourhood back in 2007, it was a bit of a wasteland when it comes to art. Today, Wiels is a veritable institution on the international art circuit and has attracted many other cultural spaces to settle down in its proximity. This Saturday, you can visit them all in one go with one single ticket (pay what you can). Sixteen cultural spaces in Forest (from A Foundation to Eric Mouchet Gallery) join forces for the third edition of this one-day art route. Expect exhibitions, performances, guided walks, dance workshops and more, all reflecting the area’s creative energy. End the art marathon with a closing party at Wiels, where it all started.
Exhibition: Post-What!? at Rufus Gallery
Until 22 June Ghent
Sebastiaan Van Doninck’s first solo exhibition at Rufus Gallery plunges into the fractured landscape of contemporary history – climate crisis, geopolitical unrest, escalating conflict. Through metaphorical drawings and paintings, he constructs a surreal world where humans are relics, subordinate to an ascendant animal kingdom. References span from Romanesque art and hieroglyphs to Otto Dix. Known for his work in illustration for award-winning books and international magazines, Van Doninck expands his practice here with richly associative, fantastical scenes that push both visual and thematic boundaries.
Opening: Art au Centre #17
Thursday, 12 June, 18h00 Liège
This week sees the launch of the 17th edition of the urban art walk that brings art to the city centre in an unconventional, accessible way. By exhibiting art in empty shop windows throughout the city centre, the route highlights Liège’s creative energy while reactivating urban space. Grab a map and explore the new selection of window installations, on view until 31 August.
Open doors: Atelier Terracotta turns 4
Saturday, 14 June, 15h00 Brussels
Intrigued by ceramics? Have you contemplated trying your luck at turning a pottery wheel? This birthday bash by Atelier Terracotta is a great opportunity to get a glimpse of the increasingly popular practice. Expect a group exhibition with works by teachers and students, a ceramics market, hands-on activities for kids, and freshly made arancini (including a vegan option) from the Moris food truck. Stick around for drinks and DJ sets as the studio turns into a laid-back evening hangout.
