This Thursday you’re invited to an arty night at brand new art space Tick Tack filled with screenings, performances, drinks, and music. Tick Tack, which opened earlier this spring, is located in the brutalist complex De Zonnewijzer, a 1955 key work by architect Léon Stynen. For this summer opening, it teams up with Ghent’s renowned art school HISK. The first performance starts at 20h30, so be there on time! You can check out the full program here.

Night out: Backyard open air at Kumiko

Friday, 26 July, 18 – 2h00 Brussels

No one wants to be stuck in a stuffy indoor club in this kind of weather. Luckily, there are Kumiko‘s terrace open air sessions during the sunny season. Walrus from Basic Moves and Crevette Record‘s Alfred Anders are taking over the cozy backyard this Friday, making you dance under the starry sky. Free entrance!

Cinema: Open air at Tour & Taxis

During the summer, Tour & Taxis screens two movies each weekend in its lovely open air cinema. Bring snacks and drinks, lounge on one of the sun chairs or your own picknick blanket, and enjoy movies curated by Cinema Galeries. Up this weekend: Horror classic The Shining and Tokyo Fiancée, a film about a love story made in Belgium.

Book launch: 01:20 at Kunsthal Gent

Friday, 26 July, 19h30-22h30 Ghent

During a residency in Ólafsfjörður, a fishing village in Northern Iceland, Belgian photographer Bastiaan Van Aarle was fascinated by the never-setting sun during the summer months. Because of Ólafsfjörður’s northern orientation, the sun touches the horizon on the first of July and goes immediately back up again after that. The sun sinks more and more the following days until the nights return. Van Aarle documented this change in light with 31 images, each taken at 01:20 am, representing the darkest moment of every day in the month of July. These images are now compiled in a beautiful book published by Hatje Cantz, and you can get your freshly printed copy at Kunstal Gent this Friday.

Design: Summer sales at La Caravane Studio

Until Saturday, 27 July Brussels

La Caravane is a lovingly curated second hand shop in St Gilles offering furniture, lighting, and decorative objects, which its owner, restoration passionate Claire, finds by rummaging through flear markets all over the country. Until Saturday, you can still profit from La Caravane’s special summer sale.

Rooftopping: Brunch at Yust

Sunday, 28 July Antwerp

There’s no better place for a Sunday summer brunch than a rooftop with a (stunning) view. Yust invites you to exactly that, offering not only healthy food (prepared by Laurens Jasperse) but also a musical soundtrack for that special summer vibe. More here.
