The most hotly anticipated event of the week was definitely the very first edition of New York’s Independent art fair in Brussels. Its arrival in the Belgian capital stirred quite some attention in the art world, and confirmed the city’s standing as an essential player in the international art scene. As to be expected, the line on opening night was far too long, but art fans’ high hopes were not disappointed: the newbie in town adds a much-needed dose of freshness and boldness into the mix, impressing not only with its carefully chosen gallery selection, but also with a freer, more harmonious layout that beats the traditional booth set-up and makes for a more open atmosphere and richer experience. We’ve had a walk-through and captured some of our favorite Independent moments for you below. Enjoy!
