Brussels’ independent arthouse cinema Galeries takes a look back on the work of one of Taiwan’s most celebrated directors. The retrospective, which includes twelve screenings over the next five weeks, kicks off this Friday with a projection of “A journey to the West” in presence of Tsai Ming-liang himself. Galeries’ movie cycle includes everything from “Vive L’Amour” which won the Golden Lion for best picture at 1994’s Venice film festival to “The River”, a film that scored the Silver Bear at the Berlin film festival in 1997.
